Genealogy

At the Library 

Our Heritage Room houses a collection of Genealogy and Local History resources. Books are available on local family histories; county histories with an emphasis on Thomas County; general genealogy subjects and on southeastern states; periodicals; local high school year books city directories from 1946 and a lateral file collection containing local history are available.

A state of the art Microfilm reader/printer is available to view. County census and Thomasville newspapers from 1861-2000, with hard copies available from 2000 to present.

The Georgia Death Index from 1919-1998 is also available as well as databases for censuses and other genealogical records.  A dedicated computer with printer and genealogy software installed and free access to subscription on-line services and copier are also available.

TCPLS is also a Family Search Affiliate Library, which provides access to a collection of over 700,000 microfiche genealogical records available for rent and viewable here in the library.

The South Georgia Genealogical Society also meets at the library once a month. 

From Home

TCPLS patrons may also access the genealogical database, Heritage Quest, from thier home computers through GALILEO.  Patrons who have already set up thier online PINES account may access GALILEO through PINES by clicking on the GALILEO link at the bottom of the screen once they have signed in.  If you have not set up your online PINES account you will need a password to access it and may acquire the current one by either visiting or calling your local Thomas County Public Library.
